The Art of the Convoy: How HRR Keeps it Flowing and Fun
For me at least the enjoyment of a convoy starts when you realise that you have ended up in a convoy situation, planned or otherwise. Why do we like convoys so much? It is tricky to put your finger on it; does it link back through a multitude of generations to evoke some kind of tribal cave man group hunting journey? Or is that too academic? and we just find it quite fun dicking about in multiple cars. I suspect the latter. Whatever it is, I bloody love it.
My Wife Wants A Word With You.
I was sitting outside my local pub in East London back in 2018 when I met my now husband for the second time. I turned when I heard the deep roll of an engine as a car pulled up next to the pub. I am certain to this day that I fell in love with the car before the man. It was a Land Rover Defender 90, in Corris Grey and in perfect condition (with the snorkel and everything)
Why?
For a Sunday morning that starts with a slight blip of the throttle to hear a throaty cold start, a flat-six echoing off dry stone walls, or the tinkling of the exhaust after a particularly spirited drive, not a softly humming EV on a charger with fake exhaust notes half heartedly piped into your speakers. The cars from the 90s and early 2000s especially speak to me. They remind me of an era that was both exciting and imperfect, full of personality and promise.

The idea of classic car investment isn’t a new one, across the globe there are some of the highest performing cars ever to grace the planet tucked up safe and sound in a humidity-controlled room, with double digit numbers displayed on the tachometer and a c-tek charger plugged in to stop the ‘from factory’ battery dying a slow, ECU fuelled death. This is all well and good, but this is a very private affair and applies to the top 1% of the top 0.1%. So, how do we take advantage of car investment and more importantly how do we overcome the barrier of entry for the decerning petrol head? Let’s explore where we are today as burghers of the motoring community before moving on to the nuts and bolts.
